Invention of the FIRST LASER!!

…………..

No Wonder!! :-P

I have a huge fan following…..almost all of whom fall in the age range of 6mths till 11 years….as for the grown ups…let’s just say …I manage to survive.

So last night I had the pleasure of company of a 4 year old, who shares my name and probably makes me like me name a bit better….I like to think she was named after me…hehe “Dil kay khush rakhnay ko Ghalib ….” Anyways she was there talking about her little things with my little sister, who looked like a full grown child in front of her , however when I decided that I want to be the one to cook soup the little girl decided to keep me company in the kitchen.

I have a great love for soups and that is half of the reason, people, even my own parents do not prefer taking me to buffets….but love can’t be helped…it happens(especially if it’s as delicious as a bowl of hot, chicken and vegetable soup ;) ) And since I like soup so much, I can cook it pretty well as compared to my standard cooking….on which I am not about to elaborate.

As I let the frozen stalk to melt, little Rabia asked me:

” Rabia Baji…..aap k ghar macchar aata hai? “

Me: “Jee baby bilkul aata hai…bohot ganda hota hai”

Little Rabia ” Acha …meri jo aunty hain na..unhon nay tou khud hii machar bana liya tha! “

Me: “Wow!! Kaisay banaya tha…apko pata hai?”

Little Rabia “Jee…unhon nay pehaly paani liya aur usko boil kiya aisay hee….”

She pointed at me mixing the stalk and chicken with a ladle….

Little Rabia “Phir cheeni lee aur  usko gol gol ghumaya zor say”

I listened to her as I mixed some stalk into cornflour and made it into a paste….I added the paste to the simmering  suspension of stalk, chicken and sweet corn kernels, meanwhile she continued…

Little Rabia “Aur phir dair  tak ghumayaa aur bann gaya machhar!!!”

She told me the last news triumphantly and I uttered my usual interjection “Oh Wow!….Chalo phir hum aik din machhar banayain gay” I told her as I added the  finely chopped cabbage and carrots in my soup and then went on to break and slightly beat an egg.

Little Rabia “Jee…hum banayain gay phir who urray ga “

He sounded more than happy at the thought and I felt sick internally at the supposition….but I smiled nonetheless and went onto add the egg in my almost done soup….

Little Rabia” Yeh kya hai…yeh kyun daal rahay hain?”

And as I explained her the complexities of making a dish of soup the little one forgot all about making a ‘macchar’…..ah such is the serenity of childhood, nothing occupies the mind more than it absolutely has too…with kids around….”Life’s GooD!”

————————————————

But as for the recipe of making a soup and a ‘macchan’,  I think what an odd combination it is, one thing I dearly like and the other one, almost drives me to the verge of becoming a ‘Phoolan devi’….almost but not quite …and I so do NOT like the ‘macchars’ in my mouth…the memories of ‘macchar in mouth’ have definitely not been pleasant

They say when it rains it pours….maybe it does. Right now I’m in the office and have a window opened right next to me giving me just a feel of the heavy shower outside…No matter how much I hate the after effects of rain, but when it comes down I just get cast in its spell…amazing, beautiful and mesmerizing!

My hands are turning to ice from the cold winds but when you can it’s good to let the elements hit you with their raw force….it keeps on reminding you of the life without luxuries and it keeps on reminding you that no matter how much artificial atmospheres you may create nothing can top the finesse and perfection of the nature….

Gotta turn back to reviewing this doc after all I am stealing a few minutes from my working time J but I just couldn’t resist the sudden inspiration….on a more realistic note though…”May God have mercy on Karachi’s roads and those people living in the slums”  we might be enjoying it but somewhere people might be in a great worry

It had to be the love at first sight…. I was totally floored…all goo goo eyed and gone bonkers over the sight of the beings in majestic black tail coats…..the absolutely adorable penguins!

Today as I visited the Al Ain Zoo I got lucky enough to stumble upon the display of penguins in the bird house. These penguins are kept in quite a large glass room created to imitate their natural habitat of Antarctica complete with clear water and rocks jutting out to create a beach side area, as well as the corals scattered about the ground to give it that special flavor of authenticity. The walls were painted to create a smattering of the evergreens to reflect whatever little fauna there is during the time the thaw sets in, in the poles…..and totally making the scene picture perfect were the dozen or so little penguins, tottering about.

Their black coats were brilliantly shiny and since they kept on coming in and out of the water, their hair or was it fur or scales? Were slicked back on their tiny heads making it look as if they had just gelled them back to make themselves fit for a soiree. They went pit pat on their webbed feet, picking up a pebble from the ground in their beaks and then stepping down into water and cutting through it with such deftness and so swiftly as if some motor boat’s submersible blackish white blade was sluicing through the aquamarine waves.

We had a good 20 to 25 minutes with the dwellers of the frozen world, photographing them, tapping on their glass windows and simply standing and staring at them. I was exultant because I had always wanted to see the little black tail coated creatures in reality, other than in the reality shows only and to top it off was the visage of scores of pink flamingoes standing flocked together at the far end of a narrow strip of a water channel at the exit from the zoo. I wish I could transfer the pictures from my movie camera but that’s such a lot of work…( at 1:30 am in the morning I turn into the biggest couch potato in the world :) )

—————————————————————————————–

So besides the horses that I soooooooooo badly want to own (Horses have to be the one of Allah mian’s most graceful creations) I would really love to have penguins too….only if someone else would look after them and I could go and hug them every once in a while ;)

One might miss several days during a lifetime without even noticing that a chunk of our life has slipped away unless a very important day is stolen away from you…..the Eid day :(

Right now I’m sitting in the huge driveway of my Chacha’s palatial villa in Al Ain where we reached last night around 2:30 am UAE time…for so called Eid Holiday….

But Eid that had already happened in UAE yesterday and which will be there in Karachi tomorrow L while we end up being in the Eid day limbo :(   :\

And as happy as I am to break away from the monotony of our routine and once again come back to this global village, I still think that Eid ul Azha’s full spirit can only be felt in my dear Pakland. I love the moooooing and bleating of the animals the whole day along and it’s a lot of fun petting the wildest of the animals plus the animal parades that are carried out by the guys on the Eid’s eve….

My brother, my cousins and my uncles are after me to join them in the  game of cricket, they are playing  and so let me wrap this up by wishing you all a very happy and hearty Eid with lots of kebabs and chops and whatnots…but try to go easy on you stomachs with all the meaty things ( why couldn’t we have had chicken slaughtered on Eid ul Azha? :P  )

So here I read this nice post on imaginings and fantasy worlds ….after which when I sat down to surf through the channels of TV a bit I thought what a bliss it would be if I could set the program schedule of my choice since I don’t watch TV often and I more often than not forget if I plan on seeing a certain program :( …and when I do get to sit in front of the tube a bit, with my luck all the channels conspire to put on the lamest of their shows…Maddening!

To bolster my spirits I planned out a dream TV itinerary, for a 24 hour job on any channel…so that whenever I could snag time to watch this one-eyed monster I shall be happy….Here it is in no special order, except for the first one ( I love the first one and hardly get to see it)

  • Numb3rs
  • Full House
  • NCIS
  • CSI (Any of the three)
  • Top Design
  • Top Chef
  • For Better or for worse
  • Ghost whisperer
  • Everybody loves Raymond
  • Seinfeld
  • HarunYahya’s Documentaries
  • Oprah Winfrey Show
  • My Brilliant Brain (Haven’t seen it yet :( )
  • Fear Factor (minus the gross worm eating parts ;) )
  • Bewitched
  • Friends
  • Sabrina
  • The Nanny
  • Who’s the Boss
  • Silver spoons
  • Out of this world
  • Fashion Emergency
  • Flintstones
  • Jetsons (Love the contrast in prehistoric and the ultramodern)
  • Johnny Quest

Anything on mysteries around the world, the Bermuda triangle, pyramis, mummies, Atlantis, Nazca lines

Anything on History, with less monotonous documentary and more interactive live sessions and clips (Used to love the History Channel)

Or if nothing else I could chart out a whole list of all my favorite songs which MTV Pakistan could play….but that would be another long list.

If wishes were horses………Ah I could capture and tame them….but alas they are like poltergeist…they come, plunder the peace of mind and you can’t control them, there is only one solution…exorcism!
