Warning: Quite a dark and a dreary piece of text ahead :)

The reality of life is simply ‘uncertainty’….one moment you are there and the other gone, vanished….turned to a mere cargo packed in a coffin being transported in the luggage compartment of a plane. The last two years have been portraying this ‘age of Aquarius’ concept to me. Blasts, fires, buildings falling down, suicide attacks, sudden deaths, deaths from drug overdose and what not…. Death is inevitable and try as we might we cannot deny it, but seeing the clutches of mortality tightening so blatantly makes living all the more surreal.

During my junior year at university, a sophomore guy got killed by his own gun in the class…. I had not known the guy, but my brother did and many other people did too….for them he was a live, walking, talking human and for me merely a name…yet his death intermittently haunts me especially now when I think that this would have been his final semester and that his parents would have proudly told everyone that their son was going to be a ‘Telecom Engineer’….I got to be one, but he never did. Another guy died when a football hit him hard on his heart during a friendly game and yet another senior of ours died of a brain tumor. And he was an only son, that too of elderly parents. 8 people were incinerated in the horrifying Berger Paints factory inferno few days ago and an Airforce plane crashed in the GIKI campus killing the pilot, co-pilot and a gardener tending to the little plants carefree of all the cares in the world. Heath Ledger, one of my very much admired, actor died of a drug overdose…

I remember how mesmerized I was by the movie “Final Destination”….Being alone, I had watched it in rapt attention forgetting the assignment I had been working on. It’s been like 4 or 5 years since I watched it but after that it often comes to how thin a border exists between breathing and getting a straight line on the cardiogram…….Last year I had gotten addicted to this song by ‘Junoon’ and I had listened to it almost in a recursive loop, it said:

“matti main mil jayen gay

Bhoolo na, bhoolo na

Geet hain jo teri meri saanson main

Khwab hain jo teri meri ankhon main

Saray mitti main mil jayen gay

Bhoolo na …bhoolo na…..”

And yet we wonder why the smell of the wet earth attracts us so. The other day my friends pointed out a building burnt to black soot during the 27th December riots and upon looking at it I had instinctively said “Wow!”…it really wasn’t a piece of art  but come to think of it, what a stark combination the brilliant raging fire is to the black and grey it leaves behind. Some place which  pulsates with the mirth of bustling activity is turned into ashes…becoming history in a matter of  little time….such is the ‘uncertainty’ of the coming moment….unless we break away from the ties of gravity and mass and see the future itself..

———————————————

According to the essay that I had read about the “age of Aquarius” during my high school years…this era in itself marked the penetration of anxiety, dissatisfaction …..’Uncertainity’..since it was being ruled by the water

…Water, the magical element is fluid, never stops, doesn’t know its own shape, it flows wherever it finds an opening….and we are caught in between the troughs and crests of its waves….highs and lows…yet always being swept away from one point by the flow….

  1. This is life for us! So beautiful yet so full of surprises! We just have to know that we humans are powerless creatures with NOTHING in our hands.

We humans can only try! The rest is upto Allah Who beautifully renders the results based on our intensions; Allah does whatever is BEST for us all!

  2. “The reality of life is simply ‘uncertainty’”

Without uncertainity the life will become a tale… uncertainity is the beauty of life.

  3. “Warning: Quite a dark and a dreary piece of text ahead ”

    SUITS YOUR DAFFY DUCK THEME

  4. One of the tough lessons I’ve learnt in my life so far is to live in this world which is full of pleasant/unpleasant surprises. World where nothing seems to be certain.

However we can try to find out the patterns of events of this universe with the experience and can improve the degree of certainty because I’m quite convinced that this universe is existed under some defined laws.

This all reminds me a famous quote of Einstein:
“God does not play dice with the universe.”

Nice post btw! but not as dark as you threatened in the beginning :)

  5. Your post is not as scary as the psychology of your readers (or rather those who’ve cared to comment). Have they become so used to violence now that they don’t feel it? I mean, it all sounds so… mechanical.

By the way, I’m an Aquarian. :D Are you sure you got the facts about the age of Aquarius right? According to wiki:

“On the other hand, the Aquarian Age is thought to bring with it an era of universal brotherhood rooted in reason where it will be possible to solve social problems in a manner equitable to all and with greater opportunity for intellectual and spiritual improvement, since Aquarius is an airy, scientific, and intellectual sign and its ruler planet, Uranus, is associated with intuition (insight above reason) and direct perceptions of the heart; and on the mundane level it rules electricity and technology. It is generally described by astrologers that in the Age of Aquarius there will be a blending of religion and science to such a degree that a religious science and a scientific religion will be formed.”

  6. @Can’t Resist to Write: Dear daffy duck fan, thank you for sharing the enlightening piece of info on daffy duck. And it was wise of you not to write your name otherwise someone would’ve informed your mom about you skipping your homework to watch your favourite Looney Tunes. Good luck with school tomorrow!

  7. I can see someone is mixing feelings of pain and sorrow with scary feelings. I think every sensible person can feel the similar pain when he heard of such violent incidences. However, getting scared of anything which has become so usual is really very subjective.

  8. “God does not play dice with the universe.”

even the results of dice n uncertainity can be calculated or predicted.
they seems to be random but they r actually pseudo- random (remember signal n systems or WMC) and thats where quantum mechanics starts (which i don’t know y einstein totally rejected in his old age).

  9. @Kamran

Yes whatever Allah Ta’ala does is best for us but as a matter of fact some power is in our hands, the power of making a decision….kind of like an AI injected code…where you’re the programmer but certain discernments are made by the program itself….God waits and see, when we’ll do what’s right….until He has to use force..

Welcome aboard, nice to have your opinion :)

@Faisal (and all your accompanying other names :P )

Yes having some mystery keeps us on our toes

As for Daffy Duck….I can’t refute what my dear frnd Hina says :P

I totally like this dimension of thinking about the probability of chance…mathematics, is without a doubt the ultimate universal language…..God does not play dice…..He creates functions :)

    @ Munir

So the great sage speaks :D

Yes there is a definite plan and pattern in everything….and Allah Ta’ala did that in all wisdom….whatever happens, happens so that you can learn something, prepare for what’s coming up….a mere instance of a grain of rice falling down could mean something big..like a day’s supply of food to an army of ants….

The universe is encrypted and we are here to decipher its intricacies :)

  10. @Hina

Oh…so ur Birthday is somewhere arnd..or has it passed already? ….God I’m so very bad with remembering birthdays :( Anyways…just in case have a hearty, happy birthday :)

Probably the writer i read was biased against aquarians….. :) but i do remember that the central idea was something on these lines i wrote…but that concept of mixing of science and religion is very interesting….I’m an ardent admirer of the concept…but u know what Hina, there is actually a time after which a person does become numb and things are taken just as they are….like this beautiful shair:
‘….itnin mushkilain parrii keh aasan ho gayin” :)

  11. I’ve not celebrated my birthday yet. I celebrate it with Abraham Lincoln, Charles Darwin, Heinrich Lenz, Alexander Petrov … mentioning the name always does good to my already-inflated ego.. ;)

As far as mixing science and religion is concerned.. hm, they say religion is a set of beliefs but isn’t science the same?

  12. At the (sure) risk of sounding cheesy – I’m sure you’ve heard of this one: “Kaun kehta hai maut aayegi to mar jaaunga..”?

  13. I guess this is we call ” The Other side of Life.”

  14. @Hina

So now ur Bday is come and gone and from the posts i read, it’s been a good one eh? :) Good for u!!

Religion and science are based on one axiom or another…yup, both are interchangeable, that is why i like to take them together and not as some disjoint sets :)

    @Absar…

Too many Hindi films for u lately? :) it’s ok to lose it…but anything is better than torturing yourself with the continuum of sappy, cheesy, INDIGESTIBLE stuff :P

    @Ash

Many facets of life…and none of them very clear…..as a song goes:

“Tou he bta zindagi….jo hua kyun hua?….” :)

Good to see u in action :)

  15. Fires burn bright; yellow or red and in their brightness they take away every shred of life, every shade of color from whatever they eat. The imagery of the post caught my attention far more than its psychological darkness but still it provoked some brooding shadows within me. Needless to say, loved the read.

  16. Hindi films? Isn’t that couplet by Qasmi saheb? :/

  17. @Taimoor

Thnx :) ….. there are many more darker things from where that came from but then again, I’m keeping myself from being handed over to psychiatric ward ;)

    @Absar

:( I guess too many Hindi films dialogues have been there for me and less of literary communications…I heard that from a movie I guess :-S ….So is the joke on me???

  18. I found your blog searching for the Age of Aquarius.

It is truly serendipity that my new book, which I co-authored with Dr. Wayne Dyer is being released on this day: “Wake Up … Live the Live You Love: Wake Up … Moments of Inspiration”.

This book presents stories from many whom experienced a wake up moment in their life which inspired them to move forward with their lives and their dreams.

I wish you would take the time to read this book and move your life from a place of darkness into a life of light, peace, and love.
